I have been learning and performing magic as a hobby since I was 14. This is one of those hobbies I never grew out of and I still perform sleight-of-hand close-up card magic. Few years ago, I needed a wooden box for a magic show and I decided to make it myself because it seemed simple enough to DIY. That project got me hooked - I started to love wood working.
I started with very basic set of hand tools and cheaper/readily-available construction materials from home centers. As I developed my skillset in woodworking, I started upgrading the tools. I now have a well-equiped woodshop in my 2-car garage that houses large stationery tools such as sliding table saw, band saw, planer/jointer, etc.
Over the years, I have created planter stands, closet organizers, storage cabinets for the garage, etc. I am still exploring the area of fine furniture making - more to come this year on furniture projects.
Recent wood working project I completed in my wood shop:
With few wood working projects under my belt, I started exploring a specific branch of wood working called “wood turning”. The machine that you see in the picture below is my mid-size wood lathe (Delta 46-460). The lathe spins the wood stock at a very high speed (e.g. 1700 RPM). I use various cutting tools to shape the spinning wood to create the art.
Here is a gallery of my recent wood turning projects.
